Iedereen wil een Grand Slamtoernooi bezoeken, maar als je tijd hebt: ga naar de Masters Finale in de O2 Arena in Londen: waanzinnig stadion en de beste 8 tennissers van de wereld. Er zijn nog kaartjes. Absoluut doen als je tijd hebt.
De Masters zijn de apotheose van een zwaar tennisseizoen. De odds bij Unibet komen niet overeen met de wereldranglijst. Raar of logisch?
Er is vooral gekeken naar fitheid en de vorm van de laatste weken. Daarom staat Federer als dé favoriet (2.80) boven Djokovic (5.00), die maar vier wedstrijden heeft verloren dit jaar, maar zich geblesseerd terug trok in Parijs. En daarom staat ook Murray (3.70) nog boven de nummer 1 van de wereldranglijst: Murray heeft 18 van zijn laatste 19 wedstrijden gewonnen.

Dat Djokovic de beste tennisser was dit jaar en de terechte nummer één is: geen twijfel, maar of hij op dit moment de beste/fitste is?
Dat Nadal (5.50) niet getipt als favoriet wordt is niet zo raar. Bij Nadal lijkt het er altijd een beetje op dat het knopje na de US Open op ‘uit’ staat. Het seizoen zit er dan officieel nog niet op, maar voor Rafael hoeft het dan niet meer zo nodig.
Toch valt ook Djokovic niet uit te vlakken. Hij weet dat hij een hele tijd nummer 1 zal blijven als hij in Londen wint. En vechten kan Djokovic.

Tsonga (12.00), Berdych (23.00), Ferrer (40.00) en Fish (80.00) horen niet bij de kanshebbers. Zij kunnen de Masters wel flink beinvloeden. De openingswedstrijd bijvoorbeeld, Federer-Tsonga (1.23-4.10), kan cruciaal zijn. Tsonga is niet Federers favoriete tegenstander. Wint Federer die wedstrijd, dan wint hij ook van de onberekenbare Fish en haalt hij de laatste vier.
Goeie leidraad voor deze dagen zijn de onderlinge verhoudingen. Djokovic-Nadal is 5-0 in de laatste vijf duels: Dat knopje in het hoofd laat zich bij spelers nooit uitzetten.
Kortom: Goed huiswerk kan goud waard zijn.

Een meer dan enerverend tennisseizoen loopt op zijn einde. Nog één groot internationaal toernooi staat er op de kalender van 2011, maar wat voor toernooi! De ATP World Tour Finals in Londen, de beste acht spelers van de wereld bekampen elkaar voor de laatste titel van het seizoen. Als Britse hoop speelt hij in Londen een beetje voor eigen publiek en met die steun staat hij als tweede op het lijstje kanshebbers met 3,70.
De man met het allerbeste jaar is natuurlijk Novak Djokovic. De Serviër zette een imposante reeks overwinningen neer aan het begin van het seizoen en veroverde en passant ook nog de Wimbledon en US Open titel. Djokovic kampt echter al een tijd met diverse blessures wat hem tot opgeven noopte bij enkele toernooien. Dat doet wat vragen rijzen rond de vorm van Nole en zijn quotering is daarom 5,00. Daarmee staat hij er nog net wat beter voor dan Rafael Nadal (5,50), die juist in Londen zijn comeback maakt, na een rustperiode. Beiden mogen absoluut onderschat worden in de strijd om de eindzege.

“We hebben de grote vier, de spelers die het meest constant waren tijdens het seizoen. Zij kunnen allen de titel winnen,” zegt Unibets hoofdsportsbetting Erik Backlund. “Maar het zou stom zijn om de rest van het veld al af te schrijven, zeker na zo’n lang en slopend seizoen. Tsonga, Ferrer, Berdych en Fish zijn allemaal in goeden doen en willen absoluut verrassen. Tsonga stond vorige week nog in de finale in Parijs en was al goed voor twee hardcourttitels in 2011. Zijn quotering is 12,00, dat zou weleens de moeite waard kunnen zijn!”

Germany have become the first team to qualify for next year’s European Football Championships after thrashing Austria 6-2 in Gelsenkirchen.
Mesut Ozil bagged a brace as the three-time European champions continued their 100% percent record in the campaign.
Miroslav Klose opened the scoring in the eighth minute, with Ozil doubling the advantage after 23 minutes. Lukas Podolski made it 3-0 five minutes later before Marko Arnautovic pulled one back for the visitors.
Ozil all but sealed victory two minutes after the restart with Andre Schurrle and Mario Gotze adding late goals to cap another impressive German display.

Two goals from Wayne Rooney and a first international goal for Gary Cahill helped England to a 3-0 win over Bulgaria in Sofia in Group G.
Wales’ 2-1 victory over second-placed Montenegro in Cardiff also helped Fabio Capello’s men open up a three point gap at the top of the table.
Russia are top of Group B after they beat Macedonia 1-0 — Igor Semshov’s goal in the 41st minute separating the teams.
The Republic of Ireland drew 0-0 with Slovakia in Dublin as both teams missed out on going top of the table.
Armenia kept their slim hopes of qualification alive with a 3-0 win over Andorra.

Vanavond speelt het Nederlands Elftal zijn negende kwalificatiewedstrijd voor het EK, thuis tegen Moldavië. Nederland is reeds geplaatst voor de eindronde. Onze zuiderburen hebben het echter een stuk moeilijker in hun kwalificatie. Na acht wedstrijden heeft België 12 punten, waarmee het twee punten achterstand heeft op nummer twee Turkije. De ploeg van Georges Leekens moet de laatste twee duels winnen om nog kans te maken op plaatsing voor het EK. De eerste hindernis is Kazachstan, dat vanavond op bezoek komt in Brussel. De Rode Duivels moeten hopen dat Duitsland op bezoek bij Turkije niet verzaakt. Als Turkije wint moet de ploeg van Leekens in Duitsland winnen om nog kans te maken op kwalificatie, en mag Turkije thuis niet winnen van Azerbeidzjan. Winnen is dus noodzaak, en bondscoach Leekens kondigde reeds aan vol op de aanval te gaan spelen. Dit zal dan wel moeten gebeuren zonder Genk-spitsen Ogunjimi en Vossen (beide geblesseerd).

Vermoedelijk start De Camargo in de punt van de aanval, met achter hem een talentvol middenveld met Simons, Witsel, Dembele, Hazard, Mertens. Leekens houdt dan Lukaku en Vleminckx nog achter de hand. Ook Ajacied Alderweireld ontbreekt. Desondanks is Leekens vol vertrouwen in een goede afloop. De Eredivisie is inmiddels zeven speelronden oud. De eerste contouren zijn zichtbaar: Ajax, PSV, Twente en AZ steken boven de rest uit, terwijl Excelsior met afstand de zwakke broeder van het stel lijkt. Een club verrast eenieder in positieve zin: RKC Waalwijk staat knap zevende, met 13 punten. Komende zaterdag gaat de ploeg van Ruud Brood op bezoek bij het kwakkelende FC Utrecht. RKC werd vorig jaar kampioen van de Eerste Divisie. Na een eindsprint die in maart begon achterhaalde men de FC Zwolle, dat op zeker moment 13 punten voorsprong had. Nadat smaakmaker Boerrigter (naar Ajax) vertrok was RKC meteen favoriet voor directe degradatie, maar de club versterkte zich slim. Huurlingen Auassar (Feyenoord), Zoet (PSV) en Castillion (Ajax) maken de ploeg zichtbaar sterker, terwijl ex-Ajacied Sno zijn laatste kans in het betaald voetbal aan het grijpen is. Inmiddels werd o.a. gewonnen van NAC (2-1), NEC (2-0) en ADO Den Haag (0-1), terwijl ‘Wolluk’ uit bij PSV meer verdiende dan een 1-0 nederlaag. De ploeg van Ruud Brood komt goed voor de dag, met verzorgd positiespel. Bij FC Utrecht is er minder hosanna.

De club zag al zijn kroonjuwelen vertrekken: Vorm, Van Wolfswinkel, Mertens, Silberbauer, Strootman en Cornelisse vertrokken, en daarvoor kwamen spelers terug die nog niet konden overtuigen: Gerndt, Nilsson en Martensson. Later werden ook Bovenberg en Rodney Sneijder vastgelegd, maar per saldo heeft FC Utrecht veel aan kwaliteit ingeleverd. Daarnaast heeft men te maken met blessures, met linksback Nesu als triest dieptepunt. Na een botsing op de training hoopt de Roemeen ooit zijn teen weer te kunnen bewegen. Trainer Koeman loopt ontevreden rond in de Galgenwaard. Daarom tippen wij RKC deze week. De ploeg is qua individuele kwaliteit min of meer gelijkwaardig aan de Domstedelingen, maar speelt veel beter voetbal. FC Utrecht is duidelijk nog zoekende naar de vorm, terwijl RKC die al gevonden heeft. De ‘draw no bet’-optie is aantrekkelijk: een overwinning voor RKC kent bij Unibet een quotering van 2.60, en bij gelijkspel krijgt u uw inleg terug!
